‘Expanding Windows’

Expanding Windows was a weeklong set of conversations culminating in an experiential workshop of the same title in Dalat, Vietnam in March 2020. Hosted by the British Council of Vietnam, the conversations held in a live-and-learn style of connecting with creative ‘hubs’ of writers, designers, artists, and illustrators, as well as musicians and others creatively inclined, brought together a unique group that was ready to engage in something… different. Using hte outdoor garden space, we began to walk and talk, reflecting on the meaning of something as expansive, and query-inviting, as the theme, ‘Expanding Windows.’ Following the workshop, Dipika Kohli then hosted an online mini-call to gather people from the virtual community S P C to discuss, share, and connect on the same theme, too. Below is the invitation that was for that call.

About this Event

I’m writing from a favorite hideaway… I don’t want to give away all the details right now; it’s a closed-invite space that I’m working in with a few people at the moment. Deeply and meaningfully, asking important questions together. In real life. I’m enjoying that kind of intimacy, here where we are, at the moment. We’re talking about the lessons learned from the 2-year roving popup ‘zinemaking’ project, Atelier S P A C E.

From 2017-2019, I went to Finland, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, and Denmark to ask questions of people I discovered in real life by just bumping into them, and then wrote some of our stories together, co-creating ‘zines’. Now, why would anyone do that?, you may wonder. Many do! They ask, for example, Why did you embark on such an ambitious project, DK? What did you learn? Who did you meet and what did they tell you?

Since it’s something that maybe other people may like to hear about, I’m opening a space for Q&A and sharing the same short seminar on 2 March, online. This will be a call. This will be brief. This will be a once-off online mini-teleconference. Check out some of these links, and see if you’re interested in what we are up to, around here, and if you find yourself saying, ‘Yes this is of interest to me,’ then join us for the call. Included in your ticket is the zine pictured below, S P A C E | Riga, ‘Drift.’

This event is free for longterm S P A C E members. For nonmembers, it’s $45.
